This interactive museum is now open. The below info has been taken off their website:
“…teaching children about life through fishing.” – Jim Simons, President Fishing can help children build confidence and independence while teaching them to respect and preserve our marine resources. We are dedicated to teaching elementary, middle and high school students life lessons through angling. In addition, we aim to teach our youth respect and honor, encourage them to act as responsible citizens, and foster the development of diverse talents. The Gulf Coast Museum of Art property, an architecturally award-winning campus, is comprised of 33,000 square feet including an Auditorium, Gallery, Administration, Classroom and Culinary Arts Buildings. The Center for Fishing will house an Artist’s Colony to encourage and teach emerging marine artists. Come and check out some the Bay’s areas best Marine life paintings and sculptures. The Center for Fishing’s staff has also formed fishing clubs at dozens of public and private schools in Pinellas county. Fishing competitions have already started among the schools. Jim Simons, founder of Center For Fishing, on ABC Action News (link) says “Pinellas County Has a tremendous fishing heritage…We want to teach children about life using fishing…[it's] a universal draw for the kids and adults.“
